my story
by frank
I grew up in the inner city of Detroit. I attended the Franklin Elementary school
across the street from the old Tiger Stadium. I graduated from the Wilbur Wright
(now Murray Wright) High School. I was President of my graduating class in high
school and I was President of my youth group in church. I had two sets of friends...
Sunday friends and then the rest of the week friends.
Was it not for the Lord coming in and changing my life, I would either be dead or
in Jail. My high school activities were on the road to destruction of my life. My
youth group activities kept me from disaster. Neither of my two sets of friends knew
anything about the other until my graduation day. As President of my senior class,
I had to give a speech. For the first time my two sets of friends would meet each
other. What was I to say? I had to mention JESUS to accomodate my Christain firends,
yet I couldn't mention Him in front of my high school friends. As a result of the
trauma I went through giving that speech and the guilt it brought to bear of my living
two completely different lives, I committed my life to Christ five days later.
A little over a year later in the 1957 Billy Graham Crusade in New York City, I
committed my life to Christian ministry. I graduated from the Detroit Bible College
in 1963. I have been in Christian ministry ever since. About 25 years in youth
ministry and over 20 years in pastoral ministry. What a wonderful change in my life.
Instead of the destructive "road" I was on, the Lord changed my life, set me on the
right path and gave me a reason to live, a worthwhile, meaningful life. Jesus stated
a basic truth when He said "I am the way (path or road) the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6). "Just one life, and soon be
past. And only what's done for Christ will last."
